Obituary for Louis Franklin Burleson, Jr.

MURFREESBORO, NC—Louis Franklin Burleson, Jr., age 81, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Northampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Jackson, NC.
Frank was born in Stanly County, NC, on April 13, 1937, a son of the late Louis Franklin Burleson, Sr. and Pauline Crooke Burleson.  He was a 1955 graduate of Badin High School.  He then attended Wake Forest University where he graduated with a BA degree in English, minoring in History.  After graduation, he served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant, Intelligence Division.
After actively serving his country, Frank attended Wake Forest Law School, graduating in 1964. While attending Law School, Frank was contributing writer for the Winston-Salem Journal, working his way up to Assistant City Editor. After passing the North Carolina bar exam, he accepted a position with a law firm in Murfreesboro, NC. Frank was a practicing attorney in the Roanoke-Chowan area for more than 47 years.
Besides his professional life, Frank was an active member in many community and civic organizations. He was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. He enjoyed his family, sports and music.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of over 42 years, Helen Hicks Burleson, and a brother, Richard Lee Burleson. Left to cherish his memory is his son,  Louis Burleson and wife Chrysta of Daytona Beach, FL; four daughters, Lynne Brown and husband Gary of Conway, NC, Elizabeth Pittman and husband Bruce of Ahoskie, NC, Rebecca Leary and husband William of Murfreesboro, NC, and Katherine Joyner and husband Eric of Washington, NC; seven grandchildren Emily Joyner of Greenville, NC, Christine Peduto and husband, Jason of Broken Arrow, OK, Richard Burleson of Iowa City, IA, Sara Grimes and husband, Patrick of Washington, NC, Elizabeth Hinson of Conway, NC, Jenny Burleson of Daytona Beach, FL, and Will Leary of Murfreesboro, NC; three great granddaughters, Carolina Grimes and Chloe Grimes of Washington, NC and  Kaelyn Hinson of Conway, NC, Brother- and sister-in-law Ken and Bettie Pate of Ahoskie, NC, sister-in-law Marion Hicks of Chapel Hill, NC and several nieces and nephews.   Frank Burleson touched many lives, both professionally and personally and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation for the Frank Burleson Family will be Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary at Meherrin Baptist Church followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 pm. Visits are also welcomed at any time at William and Rebecca Leary’s home at 404 Holly Hill Road in Murfreesboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made directly to Meherrin Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 519 Meherrin Lane, Murfreesboro, NC 27855
